Conserving Your Land

Conserving Your Land

We partner with private landowners to conserve their land. This may be accomplished either through donation of ownership of land or by placing a conservation easement on the land.

A conservation easement is a voluntary, legal agreement between a landowner and a land trust that permanently limits uses of the land in order to protect its conservation values.

A landowner who places a conservation easement on her or his land retains ownership of the land.We work with each landowner to craft an easement that makes sense for them.Conservation easements do not automatically make properties open to the public.

In addition to preserving the land for future generations, donating land or agreeing to a conservation easement may provide valuable tax benefits to a landowner.
